What Should You Expect From Pain Management Treatment?

Developing joint and musculoskeletal pain, nerve issues, or other chronic health problems can decrease your ability to work, engage in exercise and enjoy activities with your friends. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend the rest of your life suffering from chronic pain. At Revive MD Center in Glen Allen, Virginia, we can use laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma treatments, and other Dr. Banerjee pain management techniques to improve your quality of life.

What Should You Expect From Pain Management Treatment?

We can use a variety of comfortable, effective methods to treat your symptoms and reduce your discomfort. For example, we might use laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma treatments, or stem cell therapy to address your pain. Since all of these treatments are very relaxing, you can expect to feel at ease during your pain management treatment.

Receiving Laser Therapy

We can use Class IV laser therapy to address your chronic pain. This sophisticated laser will send out heat that will penetrate into your deeper tissues. Since this laser is very efficient, we will be able to quickly transmit this energy into your muscles, nerves, ligaments, and tendons. Your treatments are likely to last for less than 10 minutes, and we can address multiple problems during one appointment.

The laser energy that we send into your tissues can address many frustrating health problems. In particular, we can use this treatment to reduce aches, stiffness, and joint pain. In addition, receiving laser therapy can be a good way to address symptoms that are related to arthritis, improve the circulation of your blood, and reduce muscle spasms.

Receiving Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments

If you are suffering from torn ligaments, tendonitis, or muscle strains, we may advise you to receive a platelet-rich plasma treatment. In addition to improving these issues, this gentle technique can address many other types of joint problems and soft tissue injuries. This technique will use platelets from your own blood to address your injuries. During this minimally invasive treatment, we will take a very small sample of blood from your arm.

Next, we will use a centrifuge to remove the red blood cells from this sample. Removing these cells will allow us to create a healing substance called platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. Once you are ready, we will gently administer this substance to your target location. This treatment can improve your healing abilities, decrease swelling, and minimize the account of time that you spend recovering from injuries.

Receiving Stem Cell Therapy

At Revive MD Center, we frequently use stem cell therapy to treat sprains, arthritis, tendon tears, and carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition, we can use stem cell therapy to address problems that are associated with cartilage defects, degenerative disc disease, and other health issues. We provide several different types of stem cell therapies.

For example, we may provide you with stem cells that come from umbilical cord tissue. Scientific research has established that this type of stem cell can be used to decrease inflammation, improve tissue regeneration, and provide other unique benefits.

How Will You Begin the Process of Improving Your Pain?

When you schedule your first visit at our office in Glen Allen, we will discuss the mobility challenges and other symptoms that are associated with your pain. You should also be prepared to tell us when your pain began, discuss any treatments that you have tried in the past, and describe all of the medications and supplements that you are using.

In addition, we will need to know about any medical procedures that you have recently received. After we have talked about your health and reviewed your symptoms, we will create a customized pain management plan for you.

What Health Conditions Can Cause You To Experience Chronic Pain?

Neuropathy
Neuropathy develops when one or more of your nerves becomes damaged. You will be more likely to experience this problem if you have diabetes or an autoimmune disease. In addition, you might develop neuropathy if you are in a car accident or experience a sports injury. This issue can cause you to experience tingling and burning sensations.

In addition, you might lose feeling in your hands and feet, have coordination problems, and experience sharp pain. These problems can prevent you from going to work, exercising, and engaging in other important activities. As you lose sensation in your feet, you might suffer from falls and other types of accidents. We can use laser therapy, PRP treatments, and other techniques to address this nerve issue.

Rotator Cuff Injury

Some injuries can reduce your mobility and cause you to experience chronic pain. For example, if your tendon tears away from your bone, you will develop a rotator cuff injury. As this injury becomes more severe, you may develop aches in your shoulder and have difficulty moving your affected arm. If you are experiencing this health condition or other similar problems, we may advise you to receive a series of PRP treatments.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a very common cause of chronic pain. This health problem will cause your joints to become weaker. As your joints degenerate, you might become less flexible, have difficulty completing chores, and experience other problems. For example, if you develop arthritis in your feet or ankles, you may experience stiffness, swelling, or discomfort in this location. Over time, arthritis can also cause you to develop organ damage.

Other Conditions

In addition to neuropathy and joint problems, many other conditions can cause you to develop chronic pain. For example, spinal stenosis occurs when your spinal space becomes narrower. This change will put extra pressure on your spinal cord and nerve roots. This health problem may cause you to experience tingling, numbness, weakness, and other issues.

If you spend a large amount of time working on your computer, you might develop carpal tunnel syndrome. This uncomfortable condition occurs when your median nerve becomes compressed. Carpal tunnel syndrome can cause numbness in your palm and wrist. You might also have pain that moves throughout your arm.

Who Is a Good Candidate for These Treatments?

Since our treatments are very gentle, you will probably be able to use one of these methods to treat your pain. That said, there are some health conditions that will preclude you from using certain techniques to manage your negative symptoms. For example, you will not be able to receive PRP treatments if you have a low platelet count or an abnormal platelet function.

In addition, you should not use this technique if you have severe anemia. If you are suffering from any of these issues, we will suggest an alternative treatment for you.

What Will Happen During Your Pain Treatments?

Although the details of your treatment plan will be personalized, all of our techniques will be quick and comfortable.

Receiving Laser Therapy

During your Class IV laser treatment, we will put a handheld laser onto the skin in your target area. We will use this laser to send energy into your tissues. Since this laser energy can move through the top layers of your skin, we will not make incisions during your appointment. Further, you will not develop scars or receive any stitches.

You might notice a sensation of warmth during your appointment. This feeling will be very relaxing, and you will feel at ease as we use our laser to address your pain. Sometimes, you will notice a positive change in your discomfort, swelling, and other symptoms after you receive one laser treatment. Since this technique is cumulative, your discomfort and other symptoms are likely to become less severe as you continue to receive treatments.

Receiving PRP Treatments

Receiving a PRP treatment is a very relaxing, comfortable experience. We will instruct you to avoid taking corticosteroid medications for 14 days before your appointment. In addition, you’ll need to refrain from taking anti-inflammatory and anticoagulation medications for seven days. You will also need to drink a sufficient amount of fluids.

Ensuring that you are hydrated will allow us to easily collect a sample of your blood and prepare your PRP solution. Once we have finished this process, we will inject this healing solution into the location of your injury. It’s common to experience an improvement in your discomfort and other symptoms within about 48 hours after you receive this treatment.

Receiving Stem Cell Therapy

Depending on your needs, we might address your pain by injecting stem cells into your injured area. For example, we may use this approach to address a knee injury that is decreasing your mobility.

If you are suffering from multiple injuries, we might use an intravenous line to administer your treatment. If you receive this type of therapy, we will connect an IV line to a bag that contains a saline solution and stem cells. This type of treatment will take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

Will Your Health Insurance Cover Your Treatments?

If you are receiving treatment to address discomfort and other symptoms that are related to a sports injury, musculoskeletal problem, or other medical condition, your health insurance may cover the cost of your treatment. For example, your insurance companies may cover the cost of using one of our pain management techniques to address certain types of knee problems. To learn more about your policy, you should contact your insurance agent.

How Long Will Your Results Last?

The pain treatment that you receive, the severity of your injuries and health problems, and other factors will affect the duration of your results. That said, our pain treatments may improve your discomfort, mobility problems, and other symptoms for a long period of time. For example, receiving PRP treatments may improve your pain for up to one year.

To preserve your improvements, we may advise you to receive follow-up sessions. For example, we may instruct you to receive two PRP treatments every year. After your joint or soft tissue injury has completely healed, you may be able to stop receiving these follow-up sessions. We can tell you more about the likely length of your treatment plan once we have analyzed your joint issue, nerve problems, or other health condition.

Enhance Your Wellbeing

Experiencing nerve issues, joint problems, and other health conditions can create chronic pain that prevents you from working, exercising, and enjoying social events with your family members. You can address your pain by receiving laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma injections, and other treatments.
