Kybella, otherwise known as deoxycholic acid, is an incredibly popular fat removal treatment. At ReviveMD Center in Glen Allen, VA, we are proud to offer this safe, effective treatment because we understand how submental fullness can make you look older than you feel. We strongly believe that everyone should feel confident in their appearance, and we understand that fat removal surgery isn’t right for everyone.
How Quickly Does Kybella Work?
Kybella starts working immediately, but you cannot expect to see your desired results as soon as your first treatment session is over. This treatment is non-invasive. Unlike liposuction, which requires incisions through which a cannula is inserted to suction out localized fat cells, it is up to your body’s waste removal system to flush out the fat cells destroyed by the synthetic bile acid. This may take approximately four to six weeks.
How Soon Will I See the Results of My Treatment?
How soon you will be able to see the results of your treatment depends on several factors, including the number of treatment sessions you need to achieve your desired results and how efficient your body’s waste removal system is. Typically, treatment sessions are scheduled no fewer than four weeks apart. Therefore, if you need several treatment sessions, it may be some months before you can achieve your desired results.
What Can I Do to See My Final Results Faster?
To see your final results as quickly as possible, you need to make a conscious effort to support the efficiency of your lymphatic system. There are a number of effective steps you can take to help your lymphatic system operate efficiently, and it’s okay if you don’t do them all every day. Just be aware that the more you do to support your body’s waste removal system, the faster you will see your desired results. Here are some tips:
Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do to ensure your lymphatic system operates as efficiently as possible. Even mild dehydration slows most of your body’s systems down. To ensure you’re hydrated, make sure your urine is consistently pale. If it is, you’re doing great. You don’t need to change anything about your routine.
If your urine is dark, you need to make an effort to drink more hydrating fluids, like black coffee, unsweetened tea, and fruit-infused water. Many fruits and vegetables are also high in water and will help you achieve optimal hydration. Similarly, broth-based soups will help you hydrate, but cream-based soups will not go a long way in helping you achieve optimal hydration.
Eat Nutritiously
Eating nutritiously is another highly effective step you can take to ensure your lymphatic system is operating as efficiently as it can. It needs to be fueled with nutritious foods. When planning your meals, do your best to ensure you are getting your recommended daily allowance of all the micronutrients you need.
Also, keep in mind that your foods should be minimally processed if they are processed at all. Your lymphatic system isn’t just responsible for flushing out dead fat cells. It is also responsible for removing all other forms of waste from the body, including chemicals added to processed foods and drinks. The more artificial substances you consume, the less time your lymphatic system will have to work on flushing out the fat cells destroyed during your treatment.
Exercise
Getting regular exercise is another great way to support the efficiency of your lymphatic system. Walking, cycling, swimming, and indoor rowing are all great exercises to think about doing if you are anxious to eliminate excess chin and neck fat as soon as you can. Aerobic exercise, regardless of intensity, is great for the efficiency of your cardiovascular system.
Your cardiovascular system is responsible for delivering oxygen, nutrients, and much more to your lymphatic system. The more efficient your cardiovascular system is, the more supported your lymphatic system is. Ideally, you should get at least 2.5 hours of moderate aerobic exercise weekly.
How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
You may need between one and six treatment sessions to achieve your desired contours. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate the severity of your concerns. With this information, we will be able to give you a better idea of how many treatment sessions you can expect to need.
If you are at or close to your ideal weight, it is highly likely that you will only need one treatment session. If you have a lot of weight to lose, it is more likely that you will need five or six treatment sessions. The cause of your submental fullness also affects how many treatment sessions you will need. It is more likely that you will only need a few sessions if your submental fullness can mostly be attributed to the aging process or poor posture.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
If you are concerned about submental fullness and are at least 18 years of age, there is a good chance you will qualify for this fat removal treatment. However, it is not appropriate for everyone.
For example, this treatment is not considered ideal for obese individuals because their submental region may have so much excess subcutaneous fat that this treatment will not yield excellent results. It is also not appropriate for people who can’t follow all of the preparation and post-treatment care guidelines.
How Should I Prepare for My Treatment Session?
We will advise you on everything you need to do to prepare for your injection session during your initial consultation, but we will highlight the most important rules now. It is of the utmost importance that you do not take any blood-thinning drugs or supplements in advance of your treatment session. It is also extremely important that you do not drink alcohol, consume tobacco products, or consume an excessive amount of sodium or caffeine.
When you come in for your appointment, your blood pressure should not be high, and your blood should be able to clot normally. Another very important preparation step to take is to refrain from getting any cosmetic treatments that have the potential to irritate the skin. Similarly, you should not use any hair removal techniques in the targeted area prior to treatment.
How Will I Need to Care for My Skin After My Injection Session?
Once your treatment session is complete, it is very important that you protect your skin from UV damage. Do not sunbathe or use a tanning bed. When you go outside, make sure you apply a liberal amount of high-SPF sunscreen and reapply it regularly. Depending on the brand you use, you may need to do this every two or four hours.
It is also very important that you keep your blood pressure normal after your injections are administered. Therefore, you should avoid vigorous physical activity and excessive heat. It is also important that you do not smoke or consume alcohol after your appointment. Furthermore, you should avoid applying too much pressure to the treatment area. Sleep on your back with your head elevated by a couple of pillows. Sleeping on your stomach may irritate the injection sites.
Will I Need to Take Any Time Off to Recover?
No, you will not need to take any time off to recover from Kybella injections. Due to the non-invasive nature of the treatment, you are free to return to work once all of your injections have been administered and we have had the opportunity to review your post-injection care instructions with you.
Can I Wear Makeup After My Treatment?
You should not wear any makeup in the 24 hours following your Kybella injections. After 24 hours, though, you can gently apply cosmetics that will not irritate your skin. Just take care to remove the makeup gently at the end of the day.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that deoxycholic acid starts working to liquefy your localized fat cells as soon as it is injected. However, it can take several months for your body’s waste removal system to finish flushing out the liquefied fat cells.
